If you ask Takanori Gomi, his 64 second knockout of Tyson Griffin Sunday night at “UFC on Versus: Jones vs. Matyushenko” was his official Octagon debut.

Coming in to this fight, Tyson Griffin was 2-2 in his last four fights.  His victories came against Hermes Franca and Rafael dos Anjos while he was handed his losses by Evan Dunham and Sean Sherk.

Takanori “The Fireball Kid” Gomi had lost three out of his last five, including a loss against Kenny Florian in his UFC debut.

Round 1: Gomi landed a couple of body shots early. Griffin responded with a couple of punches to Griffin’s head. Grffin and Gomi continued to exchange. Gomi nailed Griffin with a huge right hand on the jaw and followed up with a couple of punches and the bout was stopped! Griffin protested after the fight but could hardly stand. The crowd was going wild for Gomi after the fight, who is now the first person to stop Griffin.

Takanori Gomi defeated Tyson Griffin via KO (strikes) at 1:04 of Round 1.
