Catahoula Leopard Dog is an American dog breed. It is named after Catahoula Parish in the state of Louisiana in the United States. From Native American-created breeds, the Catahoula is believed to have occupied North America the longest, aside from the dogs descended as compare to remaining dog breeds. Sometimes, the breed is referred to as the “Catahoula Leopard Hound” or “Catahoula Hound”, as it is not a true hound, but a cur.

The physical characteristics of Catahoula dogs are they have tight skin and single, short and dense coat. Blue, black, gray, red and liver are the range of colors of Catahoula Leopard Dog. While being patched with some color such as red, chocolate, black and yellow, the dog may also be predominantly white. The dogs have features ‘cracked glass’ or ‘marbled glass’ eyes that are blue or blue-white in color. ‘Colored’ and ‘glass’ part are there in same eye. Eye colors such as brown, green, amber and gray are also common. In a very balancing and expressive way, the eye color and the coat color work.

The Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog is short-coated dog with a medium to medium-large size. The skull of the dog is broad and flat. Its ears are of rose type or button over. The Catahoula’s deep chest provides for good heart and lung capacity. The legs and bones of dog are very strong. This well muscled and powerful pet gives an impression of liveliness and endurance.
