Trypophobia is a strong fear of the different categories of holes whether in clusters or not. It results in an all- over tickly feeling and common nervousness. There are many causes behind this situation and treatment is also available for Trypophobia that is given here.

According to some sources, phobia was given the name trypophobia by the Oxford English Dictionary on May 23rd, 2005. A phobia is illogical fear or a condition in which person feels obligated to evade. Some phobias are smallest and can be negligible but some can hold back the capability to work, socialize and live a productive life.

Phobias are observed by extreme nervousness including,

  • Unmanageable feelings of panic, dread or horror
  • Preoccupation with the phobia
  • Fast heartbeat, trembling, sweating, and shortness of breathe when confronted with the phobia.

Flesh: Holes, which happen in the different types of tissues, human and animal. Human pores on their skin, if enlarged, blackheads, pockmarks left by acne or other skin disorders. Some holes in skin may be caused by creatures that may have eaten through the skin creating a hole.

Food: In the meat holes are found and these are to allow veins through. Cheese that has holes may appear the most obvious but there is also honeycomb. Many disgusting holes can be viewed in different types of offal. Sweetbreads are excellent for finding holes in.

Flora: dry seeds pods you get in pot pourri.

Geological: Holes that take place naturally, from the ocean creating holes in rocks.

Burrowing: This is things with the things such as worms and maggots and stuff eating into things and creating holes in materials and foods.

Some phobias take place in definite cultural groups. E.g. taijin kyofusho, a social phobia that observes almost exclusively in Japan. It is a fear of damaging others in social situations. It is dissimilar from a traditional social phobia, in which the victim is scared of being personally mortified on humiliated. So we can say that culture plays important role for expansion of phobia.


Some phobias may got from families like twins who are raised separately, in different locations, may develop the same phobias. Sometimes it occurs due to mixture of genetic disposition and external events.

Life Experience:

Many phobias depend in real-life occasions that may or may not be knowingly remembered. For example, a phobia of dogs may stem from being attacked as a small child. A social phobia may expand from teenage clumsiness or childhood singling out.

In the trypophobia situation you should not think “That thing is really itchy-looking and gross,” try to think something more positive like, “It’s just a bunch of holes. They can’t do anything to me.”

When fear start to take hold because of a phobia, try to think something other than your fear. You can also count backwards from 100 by twos or talk to yourself about the things that is not related to this fear. Temporarily it diverts your mind from the fear.

You can take a deep breath. With the help of meditation and deep breathing you can clear your head of nervousness and unwanted thoughts.
