What about Santana and Stevie Ray Vaughan two of the best
if not the best guitarist/Artists of all time

  2. Ballz says:

This list is horse shit. The Eagles? Roy Orbison? Miles Davis? Louis Armstrong? And i can’t believe for one second that ray charles, elton john, and billy joel aren’t even top twenty? Fuck Justin Timberlake, fag. The temptations should fo sho be on here, if the fucking Bee Gees are, so should they. They should call this list, “top 100 opinions of artists that weren’t even alive when half of these “greats” were making music”. Fuck this list, ABBA sucks.

  3. Bobby the Beast says:

We now know that Michael Jackson came out as #2 with the Stones as #3, Led Zeppelin as #4, and Bob Dylan as #5 (the order of the top 5 were not known when this list was established on line). It makes no difference, the Beatles are #1 and everyone else is just a distant second. But really, how did they miss the Eagles and Roy Orbison?…both top 10 candidates.

  4. sally says:

michael jackson was #2 on the list. i watched the special last night

  5. vap says:

Where is Eric Clapton as a solo artist?!?!?

  6. Jesse says:

What about Sinatra or dean martin

  7. Rich says:

No Grateful Dead, no Allman Brothers.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA. BURN IT, IT’S A FLOATING PILE OF PIG SH**

  8. E. J. Nguyen says:

    What? No Eagles?!

  9. Blair says:

Where the hell are the Red Hot Chili Peppers? No offense to Alicia Keyes, Justin Timberlake, or Mariah Carey, but there is no way that they should be ahead of the Peppers… They have been around for about 25 years now and have mixed every genre imaginable throughout this time. Ridiculous.

  10. mary says:

How could Dave Matthews,Santana,The Eagles & Stevie Ray Vaughn have been overlooked.I think Eric Clapton deserves an individual shoutout.Cream too shines brighter than many of the acts ahead of them on the list.

  11. Steve says:

I am confused – how does Sade list above the Doors?
And for that matter what is Sade doing on the list to begin with – Smooth Operator was an okay song but Top 100 Artist Of All Time – Makes me wonder.

  12. Grant says:

No Warren Zevon????? He should be top 5.

  13. Marlon says:

    2Pac

An artist who broke all the rule he is not respected because he’s from the west coast.

  14. jrt says:

this is stupid, the most influencial punk band of my generation blink-182 is not ranked…wow!

  15. WAYNE R. PRESLEY says:

I WATCHED FOR THE MOST PART THE 100 GREATEST ARTIST COUNTDOWN FROM VH1.
I WAS AMAZED AT THE LACK OT ANY CURRENT OR PAST KNOWLEDGE OF THE ARTISTS. I WAS APPALLED AT THE TOP 10 LISTINGS. ARE YOU KIDDING ME ? JIMI HENDRIX, PRINCE AHEAD OF ELVIS? THATS SUCH A JOKE! MJ AHEAD OF ELVIS ! WHAT A CROCK! YOU HAVE ONLY BLACK PEOPLE VOTING FOR HIM! ELVIS IS #1 AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN VOTED AS SUCH, NOT THE STUPID OVERRATED BEETLES!! YOUR VH1 SHOULD BE PUT OUT OF BUSINESS! THE VOTERS SHOULD ONLY BE THE PUBLIC, AND NOT THESE LOSERS WITH THEIR HEADS UP THEIR YOU KNOW WHAT!
AND WHERE WAS BARRY WHITE? AND YOU VOTED IN GEORGE THE FAIRY MICHEAL? MY GOD YOUR VOTING SUCKS! ELVIS IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE THE KING OF ROCK & ROLL, WHICH THE PUBLIC NAMED HIM THAT, NOT ELVIS HIMSELF! NOT LIKE THE SELF PROCLAIMED QUEEN OF POP! YOU ALL SHOULD BE FIRED!
    WRP.

  16. prom says:

shocked????? MICHAEL JACKSON IS CLEARLY NO.ONE !!!!VH1 PEOPLE ARE RACIST FAGS !BEING ASIAN OFCOURSE”MAKES ME PISSED THAT I WATCHED THIS DAMN 100 LISTS TO SEE THIS END LIKE THIS….MICHAEL WAS KNOWN IN EVERY CORNER OF THE WORLD ‘BLACKS,WHITES,MIDDLE EASTERNS,ASIANS,EUROPEANS !!! HIS IMPACT TO ALL THE PEOPLE IN THE WORLD ‘THE SONGS HE SANG FOR THE UNITY OF ALL COLORS ‘THE DANCES MOVES THAT THRILLED BILLIONS ”’

    BEATLES DON’T COMPARE WITH MJ!!!!!!!!!!

  17. selina says:

This was the worst musical list EVER formed. The term “artist” can be taken differently by many without proper explanation. Singer, songwriter, performer, voice, OR all of the above? I’m in my 30’s and I’m seriously disrespected by the fact that Sinatra wasn’t even in the top 5. We’re talking about someone who was relevant for MOST of the 1900’s (late 1930’s til 90’s). ARE YOU SERIOUS VH1?

  18. vixa says:

This countdown is the worst countdown EVER!!!! Greatest artist of ALL TIME. Where are the classical greats: Mozart, Beethovan, the country greats: Dolly, Kenny Rogers, the huge acts from the 70s: Osmonds, Barry Manilow, Carpenters (yes, I said it). The Bee Gees are way too low on the list. Where are the Eagles, Chicago? This list should be renamed the top 100 artists that 200 artists got to vote on. What a crock!!!

  19. dino says:

Apparently according to VH1 motown, jazz, and blues just don’t exist. It’s absurd how many legendary artists are left off this list. How about Miles Davis, one of the greatest musicians of all time? The Temptations and the Supremes, who practically invented motown? It really worries me how little musicians today are aware of their roots and the musicians who allowed them to be making the music they make today. It’s sad.

  20. daxa says:

All rap bands stink. Eminem is the worst ever. The man has no talent. I could write a rap song in less than ten minutes. Cool and the Gang and Boston should be on the list. For us oldsters, Neil Sedaka, Ricky Nelson, and the Everly Brothers are among the 100 best. Not these dumb rap groups that espouse bad language and soulful “talking”.

  21. birju says:

This whole list was an absolute joke and there were so many glaring ommissions that I started laughing as the show went on. Where is Frank Sinatra, Miles Davis and I would even throw Bjork in there. They are nowhere to be found. What about The Supremes and The Tempatations. Where the hell is Nat King Cole. There hasn’t been a christmas that hasn’t gone by that Nat King Cole hasn’t been played. What about SAM COOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! VH1 ought to be ashamed for releasing such a limp haphazard list that is filled with errors!!!!!!!!!

  22. MUSICLOVER says:

WOW…I CAN’T BELIEVE THE RACISM…I’M SORRY TO SAY BUT BLACK PEOPLE ARE MUSIC, THE ORIGINATORS OF MUSICS…AND HOW DARE U LEAVE OFF JANET JACKSON AND YET INCLUDE JUSTING TIMBERFAKE?…SMH

  23. FBRJ20 says:

I am not a big Beatles fan, but I cannot deny them the #1 spot. They practically invented modern music. Many many acts on this list would not even exist if the Beatles weren’t around. Rock and Roll was a fad until the Beatles made it into a driving force in moderen culture.
On the other hand, I have to agree that acts like Justim Timberlake, George Michael, Sade and een Rage against the Machine shouldn’t had made this list.
Good news is my fav, Queen broke the top 20 and is beginning to receive the recognition they deserve in the States that they had for years worldwide. If anyone wants to dispute the last statement, just look up who the is the top ten all time musical acts worldwide in terms of sales. It may surprise you.

  24. George says:

how can Dean Martin Not be on this list??
how can jay z be ahead of Tupac?? this is a wrong list.

  25. RachelleK says:

Okay…this list is obviously not very official cuz most of it is weird and people were placed in the wrong spots for the most part…sorry…Tupac is the greatest rapper of all time…Eminem is the greatest living rapper today…period! And where the hell are the Red Hot Chili Peppers on this list…they’ve been around for 30+ years…are u kidding me? And Alicia Keys and Beyonce are on this list? That’s insane…they are talented, yes, but greatest of all time…not yet…wait 20 years. And Mariah Carey should have been in the top 20…she has the best singing voice in the world and the most #1 hits of anyone still around…nuts! Oh, and Depeche Mode should have been in the top 40…they have been around for almost 40 years still making music and no one sounds like them…The Beatles deserve #1, Elvis deserves #2…oh, and where the hell is Sinatra? Hello! He was the best artist for standards EVER!!! Oh, and where the hell is Chicago and Eric Clapton? This list is so screwed up! I think these so called musicians don’t know shit about music….sorry!

  26. PB&J says:

I FULLY agree with RachelleK! I would first like to say that I am very disappointed with how low Journey was on this so called “greatest artist” list. SECOND, Where the hell is…Garth Brooks, Foo Fighters, Sublime, B-52’s, Barry White, Smashing Pumpkins, Cat Stevens, Blink-182, Brooks & Dunn, Chicago, The Deftones, Diana Ross & The Supremes, The Eagles, George Strait, Hank Williams Jr., Jackson 5, (possibly Jack Johnson), Korn, The Offspring, Pantera, Pearl Jam, Patsy Cline (even Dolly Parton), Tim McGraw, The Strokes, Sex Pistols, System of a Down, The Temptations, A Tribe Called Quest, Weezer (and even though it may be early, but Muse!); as well as, I’m sure, a number of great, revolutionary artists I may be forgetting. This list did not do music justice.

  27. PB&J says:

P.S. I forgot to mention No Doubt!!!!

  28. Rick says:

No Eagles?! No Temptations?! No Supremes?! No Credence?! No Garth Brooks?! Are you serious? The Beatles #1 is a no brainer, but the order and selection of the rest is anybody’s guess. Madonna at #16, ahead of Ray Charles/ Pink Floyd/ Elt John/ Springsteen.. really? If she is #16, then I’m #15.

  29. Jennifer casey says:

Bon jovi??? Hello???? How could he not be listed???? He is still selling out stadiums

  30. Kellie says:

the fact that beyonce is above Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston… now that’s some bullshit

  31. Hahahahahaha No Nine Inch Nails? Hahahahaha Green Day,Alicia Keys,Blink 182? Hahahahahaha Who made this list the retarded kids wining of Bronze’s medal of the special olympics? F_ _ _ OFF

  32. Stevie G says:

N BIG, Mary J Blige?????? No Clapton, Eagles, Chicago, Bob Seger, Rod Steward Jimmy Buffet, Santana AND NO Grate Dead and what a waste of time; I’ll never waste another afternoon.

  33. Stevie G says:

N BIG, Mary J Blige?????? No Clapton, Eagles, Chicago, Bob Seger, Rod Stewart Jimmy Buffett, Santana AND NO Grateful Dead and what a waste of time; I’ll never waste another afternoon.

  34. yeahiwas says:

yes, michael deserves top 10, without a doubt. but #2. im not sure. i think everyone is still mourning him. so thats why hes #2. and i think if you are going to make the list, you should be an artist that has written your own music, not like some of the ‘personalities’ that made it on the list. and seriously.. how is pearl jam 93? makes no sense. mariah carey? justin timberlake? sade? al green? journey? that is 5 spots where a bunch of other more deserving ARTISTS could have been.

  35. dale says:

No damn way you can leave off the eagles.and Sinatra everything is all in who you asked. it should have been the top 100 artist of all time according to……..

  36. siani says:

this vh1 list is completey and outradge and dissapointment all the artist that shouldve been on the list were including the jacksons temtations the surpremes the people who voted clearly were all probably drunk at the time why isnt michael jackson 1? he has redifined music for ages is legacy will never die you see his moves and legacy in the new generation HoW Dare THEY PUT THE BEATLES IN FRONT OF HIM this just another form of racism they just cant let a black man win and another thing where do they come off putting beyonce further down the list than whitney houston whitney should be in the top ten beyonce shouldnt even be on the list if the jacksons not i maybe only 14 but i know music well enough to know that they messed it up i didnt even see patti labelle on here all the so called musican that voted need a serious reality check it doesnt rocked science to know that michael jackson shouldve been first

  37. chris says:

of course vh1 would have rock in their top 20. and i’m sorry but eminem is better than any of the clowns on this list. But I have to give them credit for not putting that fuckin ggiant douche Lil Wayne on here.
P.S. Daxa, are you you really that ignorant to avoid an entire genre just because they “espouse bad language?” you FUCKING flamer. I can see where you’re coming from with some of the present day “rappers.” But I highly doubt you have heard anything of Eminem’s past his fucking mainstream garbage like We Made You Crack A Bottle The Real Slim Shady etc etc. The man is a lyrical genius, whetehr your puny little mind wishes to accept it or not. I respect your opinion as an “oldster” to like whatever bads you listed and I will not bash on them because quite frankly I have never heard them before. But how’s about a little education before you open your’e ignorant stupid foodhole you want to call a mouth. Try writing Biterphobia (listen to it, theres no swearing so you’re precious little virgin ears wont bleed) or Beautiful or any of his other songs. He is a M&M, Marshall Mathers, Metaphorical Mastermind, his name will live on for years to come. Along with many other names on this list.
P.S.S. Go fuck yourself. Bitch. 🙂

  38. chris says:

I’m just waiting for you to say something about my typing 😉

  39. john says:

The biggest shocker is no Jeff Buckley…

  40. FBRJ20 says:

Ok Ok…I don’t think racism has anything to do with the Beatles being above Michael Jackson. Let’s think of it this way. What would be more valuable on the open market..The Beatles catalog or Michael’s catalog. Oviusly Michael knew the answer as he bought The Beatle’s catalog

  41. charles says:

it should have been divided between solos and groups and rap left out.

  42. DAPHNE ROGERS says:

OK, SO I WATCHED THE SHOW. ON THE ACTUAL TV SHOW, BEATLES WERE #1 AND MICHAEL JACKSON WAS #2 LED ZEPPELIN WAS #3, ROLLING STONES WERE #4 AND BOB DYLAN WAS #5. WHILE I DO NOT LIKE BOB DYLAN’S AND PRINCE’S VOICES NOR THE LATER DAYS OF MICHAEL JACKSON AND ELVIS I CAN SEE THEIR PLACES IN HISTORY AND AGREE WITH THEIR PLACES ON THE LIST.

  43. Troy says:

    Where’s Paul Simon?

  44. James says:

What the hell? I agree Led Zeppelin, the beatles, and the rolling stones should be in the top 5 (Led Zep is my favorite band ever) But Pink Floyd should be higher. Clapton should have his own top 30 spot. Where the f*** is the Eagles. Van Halen should be higher.
    My top 5

    5> Van Halen
    4> Eric Clapton
    3> Aerosmith
    2> Pink Flod
    1> Led Zeppelin

There are so many great rock stars that should be on their or higher

  45. John Miller says:

This was a pretty much fair list. But no Eagles, Sinatra,or Eric Clapton. And yes Sade had alot more than 1 hit. whoever said that is an idiot.

  46. Chelsea says:

I thought MJ was number 2 and Bob Dylan was 3..? Just wondering!

  47. papadeuce says:

Roy Orbison not being on this list is disgusting. He has what may be the most beautiful voice of all time. Don’t forget about Simon and Garfunkel, Santana, Eagles, Badfinger, Boston, and even Hank Williams. Hank Williams was one of the biggest stars in all of music in the 40s and 50s.

  48. papadeuce says:

    Temptations? Smokey Robinson?

  49. Hendricks says:

BOB MARLEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN TOP 5. AT LEAST HIS MUSIC WAS MEANINGFUL. AND BY SAYING “OF ALL TIMES”, WHERE ARE THE CLASSICAL GENIUSES? MOZART? BEETHOVEN??? AND HOW IS JAY-Z BETTER THAN 2PAC? AND JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE AHEAD OF EMINEM REALLY? I SAY THEY RE-D0 THE LIST! COME GET MY HELP, AND I’LL SHOW YOU THEIR REAL RANKINGS.

  50. CHRISTINA says:

WHERE IS LUTHER AND TEDDY P
