The first few hours seem leery of dwelling on the historical details such as the Atlantic City distinctive during this era. Buscemi has a soft heart for a few people who impress him while his shifty-eyed fixer has no scruples about ordering beat-downs. One is a smart but indigent World War, Michael Pitt’s Jimmy Darmody, with tortured loyalty in order to rise in Nucky’s operation and other is a poor, honest woman, Kelly Macdonald’s Margaret, who trapped in an abusive marriage whom Nucky helps out for reasons that remain a poignant mystery in the early hours of the series. Boardwalk is incredibly a gangster saga. Buscemi may worry about retaining his empire, but Nucky Thompson is a lean lord of venality, from his stiff linen collar right down to his immaculate spats.
