GATE 2011 Online Application Form Submission & Download Process

Upcoming all India Examination, GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) 2011 will be held in the starting of 2011. Currently, the GATE 2011 online application form submission and download process is going on. The GATE 2011 online application forms are accessible on its official website www.gate.iitb.ac.in where students will find link of downloading the application forms and applying online.

About GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering):

GATE Exam is directed and conducted by the Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technology jointly on behalf of the National Coordination Board – GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. The GATE is conducted in eight zones across the country for admission to post graduate programs with MHRD and some other government scholarship/assistantship at engineering colleges/institutes in the country. Only GATE qualified candidates get admission in engineering colleges or institutes.

GATE qualified candidates with Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology, Architecture or Master’s degree in any branch of Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Applications are eligible for admission to Master’s degree programs in Engineering, Technology, Architecture as well as for Doctoral programs in relevant branches of Science with MHRD or other government scholarships, assistantships.

The zones and the corresponding administrative institutes for admission include:

• Zone-1: Indian Institute of Science Bangalore
• Zone-2: Indian Institute of Technology Bombay
• Zone-3: Indian Institute of Technology Delhi
• Zone-4: Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati
• Zone-5: Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur
• Zone-6: Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur
• Zone-7: Indian Institute of Technology Madras
• Zone-8: Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee

The GATE 2011 online registration has started on the official website www.gate.iitb.ac.in and the will end at 6:00 P.M. on 27th October 2010. Once candidates submit applications, they can also check the status of their application online from the same link. GATE exam is held by IISC Bangalore and IIT’s on behalf of Government of India.

The online examination will be taken on 30th January, 2010 (Sunday) and the offline examination on 13th February 2011 (Sunday).

Important Dates:

• Tuesday September 21, 2010: Beginning of Online Application Form submission (09:00 Hrs onwards)
• Wednesday October 27, 2010: Last date for issue of Information Brochure and Application Form at Bank Counters:
• Friday October 29, 2010: Last date for issue of Information Brochure and Application Form at zonal GATE office counters
• Wednesday October 27, 2010: Last date for Submission of Online Application Form (website closure) (18:00 Hrs)
• Tuesday November 02, 2010: Last date for the Receipt of completed Offline/Online Application Form at the respective zonal GATE Office
• Friday December 10, 2010: Website display of final list of registered candidates, choices of test paper and examination city
• Friday December 31, 2010: Date for reporting any discrepancy in the choice of examination cities or in the choice of GATE paper
• Thursday January 20, 2011: Date for reporting the non-receipt of admit cards for ONLINE examination papers
• Monday January 31, 2011: Last date for reporting the non-receipt of admit cards for OFFLINE examination papers
• Sunday January 30, 2011: GATE 2011 Online Examination

• Tuesday March 15, 2011: Announcement of results at 10:00 Hrs

Eligibility criteria for GATE Examination:

• Bachelor degree holders in Engineering/Technology/Architecture (4 years after 10+2) and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes
• Master degree holders in any branch of Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes
• Candidates in the second or higher year of the Four-year Integrated Master’s degree programme (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/Technology or in the third or higher year of Five-year Integrated Master’s degree programme and Dual Degree programme in Engineering/Technology
• Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE (e.g. AMIE by IE(I), AMICE(I) by the Institute of Civil Engineers (India)-ICE(I)) as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech. Those who have completed section A or equivalent of such professional courses are eligible for GATE

How to Apply for GATE:

To submit application form, candidate has two ways, either online or offline. The better way to submit the application is online way.

Application Fee:

• Online fee:
  • General/OBC: Rs.800/-
  • SC/ST/PD: Rs.400/-
• Offline fee:
  • General/OBC: Rs.1,000/-
  • SC/ST/PD: Rs.500/-

How to apply offline:

Procurement of Application Form:

Candidate can obtain a packet that contains offline application form, information brochure, and envelope from (A)Designated Bank Branches corresponding to each zone on cash payment or (B) Over the counter from Zonal GATE Office after handing over Demand Draft for appropriate amount.

Obtain SC/ST/PD Certificate:

If you are from SC/ST/PD category, obtain Authorities empowered Certificates.

Complete the Application Form:

Before filling up the application form, candidates must read the instructions that provided in GATE 2011 information brochure and must follow these provided instructions.

Candidates have to do:

Stick your recent photograph (3 cm X 4 cm) on the proper place of OMR sheet.
Sign at the allocated places of OMR sheet.
Write the examination city first choice code, paper code and the address of the Institute on the envelope.

Post/Submission:

Properly filled-in Application Form with proper enclosures must be sent by Speed Post (preferably) or by Registered Post to The Chairman, GATE of the Zone, where the candidate prefers to appear for the examination, so as to reach on or before Tuesday, November 02, 2010 or the filled-in Application Form can be handed over personally to respective Zonal GATE Office.

How to apply online:

Decide Payment Option:

For online application, there are two ways provided for payment including Gateway Payment and Challan Payment. Through the payment gateway of ICICI Bank / Bill Desk / HDFC, payment can be made using credit or debit cards or net banking. In Challan Payment, payment can be made in cash at State Bank of India or Indian Bank branches.

Obtain SC/ST/PD Certificate:

If you are from SC/ST/PD category, obtain Authorities empowered Certificates.

Apply Online:

When you decide to apply for GATE 2011 online, candidates must follow the provided instructions that available at the GATE application website, www.gate.iitb.ac.in/gate2011. Then click on quick link “Online Apply” from the horizontal navigation where register yourself by entering your name, date of birth, password and email ID. Then, you can fill your online application form and proceed for making the payment of application fees.

At the end of the process, a PDF file will be created with the following pages. So take a print out of the entire file.

• Page-4: Address Slip
• Page-5: Bank Challan (for Challan Payment option only)

Cash Payment:

Page-5 of file which is bank challan, will be printed in triplicate and take it at any one of the branches of State Bank of India or Indian Bank and then pay the fees. Bank will keep a copy with them and will give return two copies to you. From the both copies, keep the Candidate’s copy with you and attach the Institute’s Copy with the application form.

Candidate reuire:

Stick your recent photograph (3 cm X 4 cm) in the designated place of Page-2.
Sign at the designated places of Page-2.
Paste the Page-4 on top of a A4-size envelope.

Post/Submission:

Appropriately filled-in Application Form must be sent by Speed Post (preferably) or by Registered Post, to The Chairman, GATE of the Zone with proper enclosures that must reach on or before Tuesday, November 02, 2010. Otherwise candidate can hand over it personally to respective Zonal GATE Office.

Online Exam:

• Date: February 13, 2011

  • 14:00 Hrs to 17:00 Hrs – AG, CY, EC, EE, IN, MA, MT, XE and XL

Examination Pattern:

GATE examination time is 3 hours that covering total 65 objective type questions which carrying 100 marks and every question has 4 options. Mark will be deducted for each wrong answer. The pattern of question paper depends on the paper code. For GATE 2011 examination, there are five different patterns of question papers:

• Papers: AG, AR, BT, CE, CH, CS, CY, EC, EE, IN, MA, ME, MN, MT, PH and PI
• Paper: GG
• Paper: XE (Engineering Sciences)
• Paper: XL (Life Sciences)
• Papers: AE and TF
