Kelloggs Cereals Apple Jacks, Corn Pops, Froot Loops and Honey Smacks Recall

A voluntary recall of certain breakfast cereals has been announced by Kellogg Company in the United States on Friday June 25. Kelloggs Apple Jacks, Corn Pops, Froot Loops and Honey Smacks are included in the recalled cereal. Kelloggs Cereal Recalled because of an uncharacteristic off-flavor and smell coming from the liner in the package. In the recall, only products with “KN” letter, following the Better If ‘Used Before Date’ are included. A “KM” designation products are not included in the recall. There are no products are affected in Canada. Due to the recalled products do not meet the quality standards of company so, the Kellogg Company says consumers should not eat the recalled products. Nausea and diarrhea are the temporary symptoms, which are experienced by a few customers, any consumers with health concerns should consult their health care provider.

While there is a low potential for serious health problems, some customers are sensitive to the uncharacteristic off-flavor and smell and due to possible temporary symptoms, including nausea and diarrhea, customers should not eat the recalled products. The recalled products were distributed nationally. Kellogg is trying to recognize the substance on the liners that is reason of the problem and is providing customers refunds in the meantime. Shares of Kellogg were unchanged in midday trading on Friday evening.

The company said on Friday, “Kellogg Co. is voluntarily recalling about 28 million boxes of Apple Jacks, Corn Pops, Froot Loops and Honey Smacks cereals because an unusual smell and flavor from the packages’ liners could make people ill.” According to the Kellogg company, “about 20 people complained about the cereals.” Company spokeswoman J. Adaire Putnam said, “Consumers reported the cereal smelled or tasted waxy or like metal or soap and some described it as tasting stale.” Kellogg president and CEO, David Mackay said, “We apologize to our consumers and our customers and are working diligently to ensure that the affected products are rapidly removed from the marketplace“.
