Add in the £5,000 ‘plug-in’ allowance from the government, and buyers will pay £23,990 to get behind the wheel – a lessening of £14,709. For that expenditure, purchasers get a proper four-seat, four-door supermini competent of a top speed of 81mph and a range of 90 miles. Power comes from a 49kW (66bhp) motor, and a full charge from a household socket takes nine hours, though a quick charging system can recharge the batteries up to 80% in just half an hour. Additionally Mitsubishi claims i-MiEV advantage from fuel costs of £144 per 12,000 miles. The car is excused from road tax, the congestion charge and company car tax.

In conjunction with the government this price drop comes, verifying that ‘ultra-low carbon’ cars will qualify for a grant of up to 25% of the purchase price to a £5,000 maximum for January 2011.
