Eva Ziegler, global brand leader of W Hotels Worldwide and Le Méridien said, “Design has always been an integral part of the W brand. As W continues to transform into a global powerhouse, we have evolved our design approach to include contextual insights that lead to locally relevant designs bound together by W’s DNA.”

In the past, W Hotel has partnered with designers like Patricia Urquiola (W Vieques), Ricardo Bofill (W Barcelona) and United Design (W Doha). For “W Hotels Designers of the Future” award with Design Miami/Basel, W Hotels has also forged unique design partnerships as a way to additional fuel modernism in design.

W Taipei

W Taipei is opened on 14 February, 2011 and was created by GA Design International. It features a concept of ‘nature electrified’ design that joins the Taipei’s rural surroundings with the vibrant, high voltage core of the city. W Hotels Designer of the Future winner Zigelbaum + Coelho has designed an interactive chandelier for the hotel.

W London – Leicester Square

Leicester Square is also opened on 14 February, 2011 as the 40th W Hotel worldwide. Dutch interior design agency, Concrete and renowned London architects Jestico + Whiles has designed W London. The hotel is veiled in a translucent glass that has the ability to change color as per happenings in the city or hotel or the time of the day. The interiors of the hotels are created on the basis of ‘the dual personality the Englishman’ – buttoned-up throughout the day and uninhibited and free-spirited by night.

W St. Petersburg

Petersburg is a collaborative effort of Milan-based interior designer Antonio Citterio + Partners and architect group Grigoriev + Partners. The hotel has been slated to open this March. W St. Petersburg will be situated in a historic building near the Winter Palace which is a new place to experience the white of night. The design of the hotel has been derived by taking inspiration from the jewel-tones and layers of a Fabergé Egg, the ‘hidden gem’.

W Retreat & Spa Bali – Seminyak

Seminyak will also debut in March 2011 and is created by partnering with AB Concepts Hong Kong and SCDA Design International. Inspired by the more than 20,000 temples that populate the Island, W Bali is designed – each of which contain private inner courtyards and outer courtyards that are for the public.

W Paris – Opéra

W Paris is slated to open in December 2011. It will be located near the world-famous Opéra Garnier. Rockwell Group Europe (RGe) has designed the Opéra by taking inspiration from both the W’s birthplace – energy of New York City and Paris as the “City of Light.”

W Guangzhou

Also opening this December, W Guangzhou’s architecture has been created by Hong Kong-based Rocco Design and interiors have been designed by Yabu Pushelberg. Situated in the Zhujiang district, the design of W Guangzhou has been inspired by the region’s ancient Kesi Tapestries. Interior features like emerging patterns, themes around unraveling and mesh work will be founded by guests across the hotel.

W Hotels is aiming to utilize Fashion to communicate its worldwide growth. Recently, W has also unveiled the Global Glam collection of exclusive designer fashion and accessories by taking inspiration from the unique design personalities of W Hotels across the globe. W will release the fourth season of the Global Glam collection during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York, reflecting the designs of W Taipei (opened February 14, 2011), W Austin (opened on December 2010) and W Mexico City (undergoing renovation).
